Our History

The Rio Verde Roverettes Mounted Drill Team was founded in 1974 by Diane Lovett and her mother.  The team's colors were chosen as green (for the lush vegetation growing along the Verde River) and yellow (for predominantly beautiful sunny days).  The group has been continuously active for 38 years and our activities have been numerous and varied!  From equestrian related events to raising money for charities, the Rio Verde Roverettes strive to preserve the western way of life.

We have performed in many rodeos, parades, and demonstrations throughout the State and have received awards in mounted drill competitions. Also, we have performed at fairs, civic functions, retirement homes and other private enterprises.

For many years, we held roping competitions and quarter horse shows. In addition, all the members did volunteer work at the Verde Valley Fairgrounds Arena, managed the ticket booths, gates, and parking areas for the annual fair.  For nearly 20 years, the group cleans up highway litter along the Roverettes' adopt-a-mile on Hwy 89a near Bridgeport.

We support a myriad of charities.  We provide scholarships for Verde Valley youths. We donate our fund- raised money to numerous charities including horse therapy groups, FFA and 4H, food banks, Humane shelters, Boys and Girls Clubs and other non-profit organizations. We financially support the Verde Valley's Equestrian center; recently we provided a new audio system.  For years we contributed with food boxes and Christmas gifts for needy families in our area.  The Roverettes have frequently been one of the top five fundraiser in the Verde Valley's Relay for Life.

Every fall we host an ALL-WOMEN TRAIL RIDE for 3 days with approximately 120-145 riders. This is a completely catered ride, with food, showers and porta-potties provided out in the wilds of theArizona mountains! Up to seven wrangler-guided rides are available for the gals and their mounts each day. There is nightly entertainment, along with door prizes and raffle baskets. You don't want to miss out on this event!
